JDRF Northwest is working to speed a cure for type 1 diabetes
January 20, 2010

Dear friends of JDRF Northwest –

JDRF is historically poised to translate research into real treatment options, by partnering with Animas, a Johnson & Johnson company that manufactures insulin delivery and glucose management systems, to develop a first-generation artificial pancreas. If successful, this would be the first step towards developing a fully-automated artificial pancreas and one of the most significant advances in the treatment of type 1 diabetes. The automated system would deliver insulin if it senses blood glucose is moving too high or stop insulin delivery if it detects blood sugar is going too low. JDRF is working with researchers and companies around the world with the goal of having multiple versions of an artificial pancreas for people with type 1 diabetes.

How You Can Help:

  • Learn more about this exciting development and find JDRF resources such as interactive tools, chats with researchers, and access to information about clinical trials.
  • Text HOPE to 40579 to donate $10 to JDRF or give online to help us speed the development of the artificial pancreas!
  • Write an Op-Ed for your local newspaper. Combine your own passionate feelings about type 1 diabetes and the need for a cure with facts about JDRF's latest developments on the Artificial Pancreas Project. Download this JDRF information kit that contains the press release, talking points, Q&A, and background.

Regards,

JDRF Northwest
